geese fly west
out of the rain

late-night taco run –
wind sweeps dry leaves
under my car

freezing fog –
treetops fade into
a low gray sky

dangerous wind chill –
woodpecker fills up
on suet

falling leaves –
campaign signs
bloom at curbside

autumn
seeing my grandmother’s face
on my mother

raccoon makes
another mess –
light rain

searching
for a lost cat –
meanwhile, fireflies

night drive –
scraggly fox
flees the headlights

graveside service –
three kinds of cicadas
whirr in the trees
