home after midnight –
raccoon ahead of me
on the sidewalk

storms dive south
much-needed rain
goes with them

spring dawn –
bloody-minded chirping
rises

Mother’s Day –
she can’t
read her cards

penny on the floor
I walk past it
again

tall, fast dog
pulls owner
on skates

spring snow overnight –
by midmorning
birds chirp again

old music –
memories of
young love

new snow on the lawn –
squirrel sees me
freezes

winter storm nears –
first few snowflakes
cross the county line
