greet the dawn

lazy afternoon –
cat watches
zoo program

cold front arrives –
wind flicks something loose
against my window

strong north wind
inflatable penguin
bobs stiffly

new year –
neighbor’s firework
explodes on the dot

mama cat
finds a soft ball –
second kittenhood

covid booster –
dreaming
of Excedrin

rainy day –
squirrel chatters
in neighbor’s tree

another blood draw –
telling myself
I deserve chocolate

putting the cat out –
overhead, a butterfly
makes its escape
